San Andreas Department of Justice
Office of the Chief Prosecutor
Troy Jacobson, Esq., is Chief Prosecutor. The Office brings criminal cases for the People of the State of San Andreas in the Superior Court.
Who the Office represents
The People of the State of San Andreas are the plaintiff in a criminal case. The Chief Prosecutor, or the Office by and through him, signs the instrument that starts the case and the motions the People make after that, including a motion to revoke probation.
The Office appears for the People. The person charged is the defendant, and defense counsel, when the defendant has counsel, appears for the defendant.
How a criminal case is opened
The criminal case cover sheet of the Department records the cause number and the way the case comes to the Court.
- Indictment
- Superseding indictment, with the earlier case number
- Information
- Another instrument, described on the cover sheet
The caption names the State of San Andreas against the defendant. A true bill of indictment states that the Office of the Chief Prosecutor has found sufficient evidence to cause the trial of the accused.
The penal code
Charges are taken from the published penal code. Each entry states the code, the charge name, the type, a description of the offense, the months in jail, the license points, and the fine. Types are felony, misdemeanor, infraction, and ordinance.
